Shropshire Master Composters are supporting the national Love Food Hate Waste Campaign.  Master Composters have been trained by WRAP and Shropshire Council to go into their communities and champion the issue of food waste.  Volunteers have been attending farmers markets and food fayres over the past year to hand out recipe cards and encourage Shropshire residents to 'love their leftovers'.  Obviously this links well to our home composting campaign.  If you do produce food waste we want you to compost it at home rather than send it to landfill but its even better for the environment and financially not to waste food in the first place!

Every year in the UK we throw away £12 billion worth of food which could have been eaten.  If you think about it for an average family thats about £50 a month you could have in your pocket if you waste less food.  Wasted food is a waste of money and a major contributor to climate change. If we all stopped wasting food that could have been eaten, it would have the same environmental benefit as taking 1 in 4 cars off UK roads! The good news is its really easy to waste less food, simple things like just making a shopping list can make an enormous difference to the amount we throw away.  There are lots of tips on the Love Food Hate Waste website.
